Too Busy to Hiss

"Ready!" cried Mother Goose.  The goslings stood tall.
"Steady!" she yelled.  The goslings leaned forwards.
"GO!" thundered Mum.  And the goslings all hissed...all except Henry.

The Story of Doctor Dolittle (3)

A WONDERFUL IDEA

It took a long time for doctor Dolittle to learn all the things the animals had to teach.  Meanwhile, the people of Puddleby went to other doctors when they needed help.  When Doctor Dolittle opened his office again, his people patients didn’t need him anymore.  “I miss them!” he said.  “So do we!” said the animal.
“Let’s sit down and eat, and talk about how to get them back,” the doctor said.
He opened the cupboard, but his people patients had not been to visit with good things to eat and it was bare!
Luckily, Chee-Chee had an idea.
“The town needs a pet doctor,” he told Doctor Dolittle.  “You can be out pet doctor.  People will bring food when they bring their pets!”
Doctor Dolittle thought this was a wonderful idea.  So he hung a sing outside.  The sign said Pet Doctor.
Soon the people of Puddleby were bringing in their pets and good things to eat.  The doctor was so happy to be helping Puddleby again.  The town was happy, too, for the Doctor Dolittle always knew just what to do.

2. THE STORY OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE (2)

ANIMAL SCHOOL

Doctor Dolittle thought this animal talk was a strange and wonderful thing.  He wanted to know more about it.  So after he helped his people patients and they went home, he asked the animals to stay for a while.
“Will you teach me more about animal talk?” the doctor asked them.
“Of course we will!” said the animals.
Chee-Chee the monkey taught him to chatter.
Dab-Dab the duck taught him to quack.
Gub-Gub the pig taught him to oink.
Jip the dog taught him to bark.
Polynesia the parrot taught him to squawk.
The animal also told the doctor secrets animal knows.
They taught him special animal cures and other things only animals know.

The Story of Doctor Dolitte : Animal Talk (1)

CHE-CHE THE MONKEY.
Everyone in Puddleby knew Doctor Dolittle.    He was one of the best doctors in town.  He always knew just what to do when anyone was sick.  Doctor Dolittle loved all his patients.  They loved him, too.  The brought him good thing to eat when they visited.
One day, the organ-grinder and his monkey, Chee-Chee, came to see the doctor.
“Chee-Chee will not eat,” the organ-grinder said.
Doctor Dolittle had never had an animal patient, but he knew  there were no pet doctors in town.  He wanted to help.  Doctor Dolittle check Chee-Chee from head to toe.  He could find nothing wrong.  Still, Chee-Chee would not eat.
“Let Chee-Chee stay for a while,” Doctor Dolittle said.
“I’ll see if I can help him!”
“Dont’ worry, little monkey,” the doctor said.  “We will find a way to help you.”
Doctor Dolittle turned to go.  As soon as he did, he heard something he couldn’t believe...

On The Island (4)

A PROMISE TO HELP

At last the noise stopped. It was safe to come out. “My friends must have left the ship to fight the pirates,” Jim said.
He wanted to see his friends. He wanted to make sure they were all right. “look!” said Ben. Up ahead was a fort. “ Your friends are inside,” “how do you know?” Jim asked. Ben pointed to the flag. It was from the ship. “If the pirates had won, they would be flying their flag,” he said.
“Come meet my friends,” Jim said. “Tomorrow,” Ben said. “Tonight I will sleep in my cave. I feel safer there.
But if you promise to get me off this island, I’ll help you and your friends fight the pirates. You have my word,”
Jim promised. He said goodbye to his new friend. Then he hurried to the fort. What adventures he was having! And tomorrow he was sure to have more!

ON THE ISLAND (3)

BEN’S STORY

Jim was running toward the pirates.  Wait!  He didn’t want them to see him.  It would be safer to face the creature!  Jim turned around. “who are you?”  he shouted.
The creature fell on its knees before Jim. “I am Ben Gunn,” he said. The creature was a man! But what a strange-looking man! His hair was long. His clothes were rage. “How did you get here?” Jim asked. “I came by ship,” said Ben. “I knew treasure was buried here. We looked and looked, but we didn’t find it.” The crew was angry with me. One day they left, they didn’t take me. That was three years ago” Jim gasped.
“what do you eat?” Jim asked. “I eat berries and goat meet” said Ben. “But I dream of cheese. Oh, how I would love some cheese. Do you have any?”
“No,” said Jim. “But there is cheese on the ship.”
“what ship?” asked Ben.
So Jim told Ben all his adventures. He ended his story with the pirates. “They are on this island,” said Jim.
Just then a cannon fired. Sounds of fighting filled the air. Jim and Ben ran deeper into the woods. The hid in a cave.
